We’ve been here since 2020 and have an enormous list of things we will be doing to transform our property to a flower farm: Creating flower beds, choosing the plants, colors, where to install the hoop houses, greenhouses and potting sheds.
Let the fun begin! We've done a soil test, incorporating compost, lime and organic fertilizer as recommended by the University of Maine.

Some of the flowers we will be growing are sunflowers, sweet peas, dahlias, peonies, hydrangeas and other annuals — and that’s just our first growing year! Our focus will be on bouquets for now, with thoughts of creating CSA accounts (signing up for weekly, monthly or yearly orders), taking possible requests for other varieties of flowers, and working with wedding designers/planners and local florists in our area.

As the fall season settles in we will prepare fall bulb planting of tulips, alliums and bare root peonies, digging up the season’s dahlias for winter storage and protection and later dividing for the following growing season. The season will end with a cover crop in the flower beds to add nutrients and winter protection. This is also the time to reflect on the season we just had and think of next spring! Keep an eye on us and watch us grow!

There is always something new to dream about here at Sweet Pea Specialty Flower Farm! As we continue to grow, we have ambitious plans for both the farm and the flowers we grow. Each season brings new ideas, new varieties to try, and new ways to share what we are growing with our local community.
We’ll continue expanding our flower beds, experimenting with new annuals and perennials, and finding the best ways to grow beautiful, seasonal flowers right here on our property.
There is still plenty of work ahead, but that is part of the fun! We are excited to see how the farm evolves from year to year and to keep learning, growing, and dreaming about what comes next.
